Stephen A Smith calls Lawrence Taylor...

Former New York Giants linebacker and NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor is considered to be one of the greatest football players of all time. He was selected to 10 Pro Bowls in 13 seasons, is a nine-time All-Pro selection and recorded a ridiculous 132.5 sacks over his career.

All of those things are facts. He is probably the greatest Giant in the organization’s history. But don’t tell Stephen A. Smith that, he doesn’t agree.

Thursday, on ESPN’s First Take, Smith said that LT was one-dimensional, stating that the only thing he is known for is getting to the quarterback.

Besides being utterly ridiculous, Smith’s comments prompted former NFL defensive end Marcus Spears to walk off the set. Spears spent eight of his nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, but even he knows talent when he sees it.

Not sure what to think? Watch LT’s top 10 plays.

His ability to get to the quarterback isn’t because he’s one-dimensional, it’s because he ISN’T one-dimensional. He knows how to read the line, the quarterback, the specialty players and figure out exactly where the play is going. If he wasn’t sacking the quarterback, he was intercepting the ball. He had nine interceptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns over his career.

Stephen A. Smith can say that LT was one-dimensional all he wants, but that doesn’t make it true. True fans of the game will understand why Spears reacted the way he did and agree that Smith would have been better off inserting his foot into his mouth before saying that.
