Steelers won't admit odd Le'Veon Bell-Jets trade...

Le’Veon Bell started the rumor, but the Steelers won’t fan it.

“Not to my knowledge, no,” head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Sunday when asked if Pittsburgh called the Jets about Bell at last week’s NFL trade deadline.

Bell said earlier this week the Steelers were among the teams that had looked into acquiring him, according to his agent, which would have made for a fascinating reunion.

Bell, who spent five seasons in Pittsburgh, sat out the 2018 season in an unprecedented move after he and the Steelers couldn’t reach a long-term contract extension. The star running back signed a four-year, $52 million deal ($27 million guaranteed) with the Jets last offseason.

The Steelers pursued Bell after running back James Connor suffered a shoulder injury the night before Tuesday’s deadline, but relented when they found out the injury wasn’t too serious, according to ESPN.

The Packers, Chiefs and Texans also were interested in acquiring Bell at the deadline, Bell said on the Uninterrupted “17 Weeks” podcast.

The Jets were said to be only fielding offers for Bell, and not actively shopping him amid a dismal start to the season that saw them fall to 1-7 after Sunday’s loss to the previously winless Dolphins.
