Seahawks opposing quarterback profile: Rams QB...

The Seattle Seahawks are back in action on a short week with a Thursday night battle against the Los Angeles Rams. Leading the charge for the City of Angels is quarterback Jared Goff.

In a way, this game is a bit of a throwback for both Goff and the Seahawks. The first time they faced each other was on a Thursday night in 2016 at CenturyLink Field.

It was a forgettable night for Goff, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, as the Seahawks won 24-3.

Goff completed 13 of 25 passes for only 135 yards and no touchdowns. It was part of a rough rookie campaign for Goff, who completed only 54% of his throws for five touchdowns and seven interceptions that season, losing all seven games he started.

Under the tutelage of Sean McVay, who was hired as Rams head coach in 2017, Goff has transformed into one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. In the last two years alone, Goff has 60 touchdown passes, two NFC West championships and a trip to the Super Bowl.

However, 2019 is starting a little rough for Goff. The Rams may be 3-1, but it’s not because of his play. Goff has had only one game without an interception, and he has five in his last two starts. Every week this year, he has fumbled the ball. In fact, Goff has fumbled the ball 14 times in his last 13 games, dating back to a Week 11 game against the Chiefs.

So far, the Rams are not the unstoppable offensive powerhouse they were last year, and Goff’s regression through the first quarter of the season is a major reason why. In a Week 3 loss to the Buccaneers, Goff had four turnovers by himself.

Although Goff is struggling with ball security, the Seahawks haven’t had much luck creating turnovers themselves in 2019. The Rams are vulnerable, and if Seattle wants to take over first place in the division the Seahawks are going to have to force Goff into a few more mistakes to give themselves a chance.

Otherwise, if Goff is allowed to right the ship and get back to last year’s form, it’ll be a long night for the Seahawks defense.
