Seahawks could be short 2 safeties on Sunday...

The Seattle Seahawks will face Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, and they may have to do it without two of their regular safeties.

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed on Friday that Lano Hill (elbow) will be out for Sunday and could miss a few weeks with an elbow injury.

“He’s not gonna make it,” Carroll said. “He’s got a thing in his elbow that’s gonna take a couple weeks before we know what we can do with it.”

Carroll also said that veteran Bradley McDougald woke up with back spasms during the week, and that he will be a game time decision on Sunday.

That leaves Tedric Thompson and a pair of rookies, Marquise Blair and Ugo Amadi, available at the safety spots if McDougald is unable to go.

Blair, who had been focusing primarily at free safety, would likely fill in at strong safety alongside Thompson if McDougald doesn’t suit up, a move that Carroll believes the rookie is prepared for.

“If he has his chance to play at strong safety, he’ll be ready to go,” Carroll said. “I’m counting on him playing really good. He’s a runner and a hitter, he’s shown that. We don’t have any question about that, it’s just can he settle in and be comfortable with the calls and the adjustments and all that stuff and just play good ball. There’s no question about his ability level, it’s just getting acclimated. He’s had a really good week of practice, he’s got a ton of work because of the situation with the safeties and so this is as ready as he could possibly be at this point right now. So we’re looking forward to him playing if that’s the call.”

Blair is definitely next in line, although Carroll did mention that he likes the rookie Amadi at free safety as well, should they need him.

Without Hill, the Seahawks will need both Blair and Amadi ready to play big time snaps. If McDougald is out as well, Blair will likely be the starter, with Amadi ready in a reserve role.

McDougald’s status will be updated roughly 90 minutes before gametime on Sunday, which is set for 1:25 p.m. PT.
