The Seattle Seahawks announced that Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner, and Neiko Thorpe will serve as their offensive, defensive, and special teams captains, respectively, for the 2019 season.

Wilson and Wagner came up together in the 2012 NFL draft, and both served the team as captains and vocal leaders in each of the last few years.

“Bobby Wagner returns as the defensive captain,” coach Pete Carroll commented on Wednesday. “Our players vote for our captains. I don’t know how many years in a row it is, but he’s a great leader and he’s the obvious guy and it’s a no-brainer. He’s the voice, he’s the action, he’s all of it.”

“Russell returns as offensive captain,” Carroll continued. “He’s awesome as the guy that leads the program, he’s calling every play, he’s taking every snap, he’s on it. Both those guys care so much about what’s going on around them and the people they can help and reach out to. They’re incredible leaders.”

Thorpe has long been considered the team’s leader on the special teams, which has kept him on the roster for the last three years despite a limited role on the defense.

“Neiko Thorpe has been the spirit of the special teams for a number of years now,” Carroll added. “It’s great that the guys recognize him again. He’s got a great presence in our room with our guys.”

Wagner, Wilson and Thorpe will not only be out on the field for the pregame coin toss, but they will be counted on as leaders on the practice field, during games, and in the clubhouse.

“Those guys are incredible leaders for us,” Carroll concluded. “Thrilled to have them.”
