The Philadelphia Eagles have re-invented the term injury bug over the past two seasons. The Birds have been riddled by injuries in the secondary. With Ronald Darby (hamstring), Sidney Jones (hamstring) and Avonte Maddox (neck/concussion) sidelined last week, Rasul Douglas was the team’s top cornerback.

It shouldn’t be a surprise, because the third-year cornerback has continued to blossom with the absence of Jalen Mills (foot) and Cre’Von LeBlanc (foot) to various injuries. Douglas has been the Eagles’ most reliable cornerback this season and his statistics back up.

According to Pro Football Focus. Douglas is one of the NFL’s top-25 graded cornerbacks through five games, landing at No. 20 on the list.

“Douglas is among the group of four cornerbacks to record five or more pass breakups through the first five weeks of the NFL season, and that playmaking ability has earned him a spot on this list. His forced incompletion rate of 29.6 percent is the highest in the league among all players with 25 or more targets in their coverage. He has made a few blunders, namely letting Terry McLaurin run free for a big touchdown in Week 1, but his play as a whole has been big for an oft-maligned Eagles secondary.”

Douglas graded out ahead of New Orleans Saints cornerback Eli Apple and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones on the list. On the season, Douglas accounted for 13 tackles and five pass breakups, while only allowing 14 catches on 27 targets.
