The Dallas Cowboys opened the season against their division rivals, the New York Giants. In the end, America’s Team extended their winning streak to five straight.
This Dallas Cowboys team came out and made a statement against the New York Giants winning the game 35-17. The Cowboys didn’t get off to a fast start, after having the first drive stall and ending in a punt. That then led to a Giant touchdown from quarterback Eli Manning to tight end Evan Engram.
After that score, the Cowboys seemed to wake up and were able to do whatever they wanted to do on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Dak Prescott would go on to throw for 405 yards and hit tight end Blake Jarwin, Amari Cooper, Jason Witten, and Randall Cobb for touchdowns. Prescott showed that he was very comfortable with the new offense and would end the game with a perfect passer rating of 158.3.
The Cowboys running game started off slow with running back Ezekiel Elliott getting his first live-action since playing against the Los Angeles Rams last season. The Cowboys played it safe and didn’t overwork Elliott electing to have him split carries with rookie running back Tony Pollard. Elliott would end up running for 53 yards and a touchdown while Pollard ran for 24 yards.
The only negatives you could find in the game for the Cowboys would be the play of the defense, while they forced two turnovers and held the Giants to only 17 points they gave up 470 total yards. Quarterback Eli Manning threw for 306 yards while Giants running back Saquon Barkley ran for 120 yards. The Cowboys also were flagged eight times for 70 yards in the game.
In all, it was a great game from the Cowboys but the defense must shake off the rust and get back to their 2018 form. While the Cowboys coaching staff must get their players focused so they aren’t making mistakes causing flags in games.
Next week the Dallas Cowboys will travel to take on their bitter rival, the Washington Redskins who fell to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the day. I’ll be at the game, I hope to see you there!
