Adam Gase gives struggling Jets some more work

Jets coach Adam Gase said the team put extra reps into practice Wednesday as they try to fix what has gotten them off to an 0-3 start. He was asked if the extra reps are because of the uncertain quarterback situation.

“No, it’s probably more of [being] 0-3,” Gase said. “So, we need to get better at a lot of things, so we’ll do a little more.”

The Jets did not practice during the bye week, and the players returned refreshed Wednesday and ready to work. They clearly practiced longer than they have been, and the players said they worked on some of the problems that have led to this slump.

“We got a lot [of work],” safety Jamal Adams said. “Just to fix some communication things on both sides of the ball so we can get on the same page. Nothing major but we just want to make sure we’re playing team football at all times throughout the game to where we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot.”

LB C.J. Mosley (groin) remains sidelined, and it does not look good for Sunday against the Eagles. He did not practice again Wednesday.

Mosley injured his groin in the third quarter of the Week 1 loss to the Bills on Sept. 8. He has not practiced since.

“It’s just what he has to do is different than some of the other spots,” Gase said. “He’s got to be able to open up and run and burst. There’s a lot of things that he has to be able to do and he’s got to be right to do it. So, I mean he’s doing everything he can. It’s just how the body reacts.”

As Gase promised Monday, the Jets began taking a look at different offensive linemen on Wednesday as the coach considers a potential lineup shake-up.

“We’re working everybody,” Gase said.

There are many potential changes. LG Kelechi Osemele missed practice with shoulder and knee injuries. Alex Lewis could step in for him. Rookie Chuma Edoga could get a shot at right tackle for Brandon Shell. Tom Compton could start at right guard instead of Brian Winters. Center Ryan Kalil could be benched for Jonotthan Harrison. It will be an interesting week for the O-line.

In addition to Mosley and Osemele, the following players did not practice Wednesday: RB Trenton Cannon (hamstring/ankle), OLB Jordan Jenkins (calf) and WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring).
